Include Me TOO's Outreach and Partnership Co-ordinator, Syeda Khan, met with Poppy (SAFS CEO) and Simmi (SAFS Project Support Administator) to discusses Include Me TOO's new project with Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children. 

The project entitled 'Reaching Out', aims to support Black, Asian and other Monirity Ethic (BAME) communities across the West Midlands who care for a disabled or terminally ill child. 'Reaching Out' provides information, awareness and access to specialist care and support through Newlife's care services. 

Syeda outlined the following owing aspects of the 'Reaching Out' project: 

  • Outreach and peer support from within the communities connecting BAME families who care for disabled children reducing isolation, breaking down cultural and language barriers and increasing access to services 
  • Appropriate and repsonsive support through Include Me TOO family support networks, training and events 
  • Access to free confidential Nurse-led helpline for practical support, information and guidance 
  • Apply for a non-mean tested grant for essential equipment to improve a child's wellbeing 
  • Loan for free Play Therapy Pods for specialist toys to promote and assist a child's learning and development 
  • 'Just Can't Wait' emergency equipment loan to promote practical support for terminally ill or life limiting children within 72 hours 
  • Free telephone translation service and fully translatable website 

To ensure and promote organisations workOMG together in the local community, SAFS will be sure to signpost families to the 'Reaching Out' project. Syeda will also be sharing the aims, objectives and services of the project with SAFS' Parents and Carers group in Spring 2015.
